This past weekend would have been NKU’s third showing in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Due to COVID-19, the Norse weren’t able to compete in the national tournament. A lot of teams didn’t even get to start their conference championships, speculation of NKU would play was still out. Villanova and Baylor were number two seeds that popped up the most as NKU’s contenders.

NKU wins the 2020 Horizon League Tournament, 71-62

NKU defeated the UIC Flames 71-62 in the 2020 Horizon League Championship game Tuesday night. The Norse will go onto their third NCCA Tournament appearance in NKU’s Division I history.

NKU men's basketball team survived and advances to the final round of the Horizon League tournament after defeating the Green Bay Phoenix 80-69. NKU took dominated the last five minutes of the game propelling them into their 11 point win. Redshirt junior guard Jalen Tate scored 23 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the free throw line.

NKU men’s basketball ends regular season second in the Horizon League, 64-62

The Wright State Raiders men’s basketball team defeated the Northern Kentucky Norse 64-62 on Friday night, writing another chapter in what has become a storied rivalry in the Horizon League.  With the victory, Wright State has clinched the regular-season championship in the Horizon League standings, earning the number-one seed in the Horizon League Tournament.

The Northern Kentucky Norse men’s basketball team was out-hustled and out-played on Sunday afternoon, as the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames came into BB&T Arena and handed the Norse a crushing 73-43 defeat.

Homecoming Clash ends with a 19 point win for NKU

The Norse pulled the curtains on homecoming week with a victory over the Detroit Mercy Titans at the BB&T Arena Saturday night in front of a crowd of 6,231, including 1,173 students.  The 17-7 homecoming-Norse came out victorious with their fourth straight win with a final score of 84-65 over the 6-18 Titans. NKU remains second in conference trailing Wright State after a 9-1 run in their last 10 games.

Cole Murray, a 2017 graduate and men’s basketball star, had his jersey retired by his high school on Jan. 25. Murray was instrumental in NKU’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament and graduated with 259 career 3-pointers and scored a total of 930 points.

Sunday morning, NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13 year-old daughter Gianna “Gigi” Maria-Onore Bryant died in a helicopter crash along with seven others. TMZ was the first to break the story of Kobe Bryant being involved in the helicopter crash.

Friday nights match up at Nutter Center ended in the Wright State Raiders favor with a whopping 32 point win. NKU now falls to 14-7 on the season and 6-3 in the conference. Wright State advances to 18-4 overall and 8-1 in the Horizon League, only falling to UIC 76-72.

The Northern Kentucky men’s basketball team captured their second win in three days Saturday night against the Cleveland State Vikings. The win marks five straight conference wins for the Black and Gold.
