It is a new age of college basketball, and teams are changing every year due to the transfer portal.
That is no different for the Norse and their roster. After the first year under new Head Coach Jeff Hans, four women’s basketball players have decided to enter the transfer portal, according to Talia Goodman of ON3 Sports.
Kailee Davis

Davis has been an integral part of NKU women’s basketball in her four years with the program. Her inability to hit the court this season due to injury pales in comparison to the illustrious career she had in the Norse jersey.
The Detroit native has decided to return home for her final year of eligibility to play for the Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy Titans. Hans said the Titans will be getting a “fantastic” scoring guard who can also run the team when called upon.
Davis immediately made an impact at NKU, playing in 24 games and earning a Horizon League Freshman of the Week award along the way. Her sophomore year she led the team in assists and was second on the team in scoring at 13 points per game. This earned her a spot on the Horizon All-League Third Team.
In her junior season, Davis again suited up for 24 games and started in 21 of them. She was fourth on the team in scoring, third in assists and first in three-pointers made and three-point percentage. She was awarded Horizon League All-Preseason Second Team honors.
Thousands of players have hit the transfer portal and the Norse are not immune to the effects of that. These players entering the transfer portal open up four scholarship spots on the roster as Hans tries to iron out the look of his team going into his second season in Highland Heights.
Sydney Martin

Martin was the only one to not register a minute of playing time for the Norse in her career. She was a redshirt freshman due to injury.
Martin was an excellent player in high school at Pulaski County in Somerset, Ky, where she is the all-time leader in career points. She earned the “Commonwealth Journal” Girl’s Basketball Player of the Year award twice. She averaged 21.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in her senior season.
Hans said she has a “high motor,” and the next team that gets her will receive a player who goes all out on every play.
Allison Basye

Basye just finished up her third season with the Norse.
She contemplated entering the transfer portal after her sophomore campaign, but decided against it with new opportunities coming with the coaching change. Unfortunately, those ideas were short-lived due to an injury sidelining her for the entire season.
The Chillicothe, Ohio native appeared in 11 games in her initial season with the Norse. That number increased to 24 games in her second season, even getting the starting nod for eight of those. She scored in double figures three times last season, including a career high 18 points against Horizon League foe Cleveland State in December 2023.
Hans marveled about the type of athlete Basye was during her time at NKU.
”Allison is a good athlete and plays multiple positions for her skill set,” he said.
Madison French

French has decided to enter the transfer portal after two seasons at NKU.
She had a solid start to her Norse career, playing in seven games and averaging seven minutes in those contests. Those numbers continued to climb after her first season. She saw action in 14 games this past season and set career highs against Ball State in points and rebounds in December 2024.
French is a Cincinnati native, graduating from Lakota East High School. She scored over 1,000 points during her time there. She also led Lakota East to a 23-4 record during her senior season.
Hans said he was always most impressed with the “multiple ways” French could score the ball, and she will bring instant offense at her next stop.
