Monday, Nov. 4
- Women’s basketball lost to Middle Tennessee in their season and home opener 79-58. Halle Idowu led the Norse in scoring, shooting 7-9 from the field and dropping 18 points. Gabby Razzano came off the bench, going 3-5 from the three-point line and finishing with 11 points and six rebounds. Macey Blevins finished with nine points, as she had most of her points at the free throw line going 5-6 on the night. She ended the game with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Freshman guard Anna Hamilton got her first career start and scored six points, four rebounds and three assists.
- Men’s basketball opened up their season with a loss against Florida State 74-62. The Norse kept it close with the Seminoles the whole game but that first-half deficit was too much to come back from for NKU. Josh Dilling was the leading scorer for NKU, pouring in 18 points for the Norse in 34 minutes in his debut. Dilling hit a pair of threes and went 6-6 from the foul line. Sophomore Randall Pettus II scored double figures, finishing with 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds as well. Sam Vinson finished with seven points and two rebounds. Trey Robinson (9) and LJ Wells (8) combined for 17 rebounds.
Tuesday, Nov. 5
- Men’s soccer lost to Wright State 4-1. Wright State picked up a goal early, scoring in the 22nd minute. Less than 10 minutes later the Norse found the back of the net with a goal by Parker Vasic. The Raiders scored in the 64th minute to take the 2-1 lead. The last 10 minutes of the game is where it picked up for the Raiders, scoring the last two goals: one in the 83rd minute and the second in the 85th minute. This would seal the fate of the Norse. NKU outshot Wright State in the match, 10-7, but four of those came after Wright State had taken a 2-1 lead. Northern Kentucky also won the corner battle, 4-1.
Thursday, Nov. 7
- Women’s basketball lost against 22nd-ranked Kentucky 70-41. Kalissa Lacy led the Norse in scoring, putting up ten points on the night. Lacy hit a pair of threes, including one that beat the buzzer in the third quarter. Lacy also had two assists. Abby Wolterman put up eight points and four rebounds while shooting a perfect 4-4 at the free-throw line. Kamora Morgan put up six points off the bench. The Norse only recorded ten turnovers in the game but lost the rebound battle 52-34.
- Women’s soccer beat Detroit Mercy 1-0. The Norse found the back of the net early scoring in the 16th minute with a goal by Kylie Anderson. Emilie Doersching and Erykah Cornett were credited with assists. The Norse were firing shots at the goal; they outshot Detroit Mercy 16-12, with seven shots on goal for the Norse. Corner kicks were even, 6-6. NKU’s defense was the star of the show, Megan Gessner made five saves having a clean sheet for the game. In the last 30 minutes of the game, NKU’s defense was suffocating, holding Detroit Mercy to zero shots. The game was physical with 25 combined fouls being called during the match.
Friday, Nov. 8
- Women’s volleyball won against Oakland 3-0. NKU jumped out of the gate quickly going up to a 12-1 lead in the first set, NKU would retain their lead and even lead as big as 14 points. The Norse won the first set in convincing fashion winning 25-16. The second set was about the same for the Norse. Oakland kept it close in the first half of the set with the biggest lead being three 11-8, but the Norse piled on the points going on a 5-0 run in set two giving themselves a 16-8 lead. The Golden Grizzlies would go on a little 6-1 run themselves, cutting the lead within three 17-14. The Norse would get back-to-back points and Oakland would take just one more point until the Norse went on a 6-0 run to win the set 25-15. The Third set is where the game came easy for NKU. They jumped out to a 6-4 lead and didn’t look back, going on an 8-0 run to lead 14-4. The Golden Grizzlies would get three points on the board before the Norse would go on another run making the game 18-7. Oakland and NKU would trade points back and forth until the game was 21-11 going on a 4-0 run to sweep the game 3-0 and winning the set 25-11. Northern Kentucky posted a highly efficient offense performance, hitting .326 as a team. Allie Siefke, Joy Banks, Ava Hoying, Ivey Stocks, Sydney Bray and Allison Risley all finished with 5+ kills. Stocks’ nine led the way. Both Lucy Cluxton and Banks finished with 10+ digs, Cluxton with a team-high 12. Torie Houston and Lainey Green combined for 35 assists. NKU held Oakland to a .056 hitting percentage, including a -.103 in the third set.
- Men’s basketball lost to number 14-ranked Purdue 72-50. Sam Vinson finished with eight points and six boards while adding a pair of assists and three steals. Trey Robinson finished with eight points and six rebounds as well, going 6-6 from the foul line. Paulis Rapolis saw his first collegiate action and posted four points and four rebounds. Keeyan Itejere fouled out but finished with eight points in 19 minutes, throwing down a crazy dunk in the second half. Josh Dilling, the main focus for the Boilermakers defense finished with seven points, five boards and three assists. As a team, the Norse shot 11-14 from the free-throw line. Turnovers were even with each side having 13. Rebounds were even as well at 33. NKU held a 15-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.
Saturday, Nov. 9
- Women’s triathlon won heat three in the NCAA National Championships in Clermont, Florida. Alisha Detmer was the star for the Norse; she finished the sprint distance triathlon in 1:11:45, that included a 750m swim in 12:59, 20km bike in 36:57 and 5km run in 20:38. Overall she finished in 116th place after combining the three waves. Josie Timmers finished the sprint distance triathlon in 1:24:24, that included a 750m swim in 13:51, 20km bike in 40:22 and 5km run in 28:47. Overall she finished in 178th place after combining the three waves. Detmer led the Norse, breaking the tape for first place in the third heat.
- Women’s volleyball beat Oakland 3-0. NKU dominated in the first set, they jumped out to an early 6-3 lead after trading points the Norse went on a 5-0 run giving them a 12-4 lead. The rest of the set the Norse would go on little runs keeping their lead; they led by as much as 13 and they won the set easily cruising a 25-12 win, hitting an hit an insane .516. In the second set, NKU played great on both sides of the net hitting .296 in the second set and held Oakland to .029. The Golden Grizzlies were the first to strike going up 4-1 but that didn’t hold for them. NKU would go on a huge 7-0 run to give them the 11-6 lead. Oakland would get two back-to-back points before the Norse ran them out of the gym going on a 7-1 run to lead 18-10. The Norse would go on another run after the back-and-forth play winning the set 25-14. The third set was electric with a lot of backand-forth play and Oakland going on runs. The Norse found themselves down 17-11 until they went on a 4-0 run cutting the game within two at 17-15. Oakland would get back-to-back points before NKU went on a 5-0 run getting the lead to 20-19. Oakland and the Norse would each go on 2-0 runs tying the game up for each other until the Golden Grizzlies had the one-point lead of 25-24, The Norse would go on a 2-0 run winning the set 27-25 and winning the game 3-0. Joy Banks, Lucy Cluxton and Lainey Green all finished with double-doubles. Cluxton’s 16 digs were a match-high. Alongside Banks, Sydney Bray finished with a match-high 10 kills. Bray hit a blistering .474 in the match. Torie Houston finished with 13 assists and nine digs, finishing one dig shy of a double-double.
- Women’s soccer lost to Milwaukee 2-1 in the Horizon League Championship game. The Panthers took the lead in the 31st minute and held a 1-0 lead at the half. Emilie Doersching scored the equalizer for the Norse in the 58th minute. Milwaukee took the lead not seven minutes later off a penalty kick which won Milwaukee the game. Northern Kentucky outshot Milwaukee 17-15 in the match and also won the shot on goal battle, 10-7. NKU was particularly aggressive in the second half, outshooting the Panthers 12-6 in the period. Milwaukee dominated the corner battle, getting eight in the match while Northern Kentucky received just one.
Sunday, Nov. 10
- Women’s basketball beat Marshall 80-78. After falling behind 15-20 at the first quarter break, the Norse played great in the second quarter, outscoring Marshall 36-19. Northern Kentucky shot 74% from the field in the period, going 5-6 from the three-point line. Kamora Morgan knocked down back-to-back triples to end the period, as NKU led 51-39 at the half. A Macey Blevins three early in the third quarter gave the Norse a thirteen-point lead, which was their largest of the game. Marshall slowly chipped away at NKU’s lead, eventually taking a one-point lead late in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was close, as eight lead changes occurred in the final period. Several Norse contributed down the stretch to give NKU the victory. Noelle Hubert made a three-point basket to lead with just three minutes to go. Mya Meredith tipped in a shot with just under a minute to go for a one-point lead. When the Norse needed her most, Macey Blevins delivered. Down one with 4.5 seconds to go, the Norse had an inbound pass under the basket. Blevins passed to Meredith on the right wing, and she immediately kicked it back to Blevins, who sunk the game-winning corner three to take down the Thundering Herd. – Halle Idowu had a monster game for the Norse, dropping 29 points on 13-18 shooting, grabbing eight rebounds, blocking two shots and adding two steals. Kalissa Lacy came off the bench as she knocked down three triples. Lacy finished with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. Macey Blevins scored ten points on 4-8 shooting and went 2-3 from beyond the arc. She also added three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Anna Hamilton and Kamora Morgan scored eight points apiece. Hamilton recorded a team-high five assists while Morgan went 2-3 from three-point range. The Norse dominated in bench scoring, winning the bench points battle 31-13. The Norse bench recorded 21 points in the second quarter alone. Northern Kentucky shot great from the three-point line shooting 10-24 (41.7%).
