Tuesday, Oct. 14
- Men’s golf finished third at The Buddy hosted by Murray State. Luke Muller finished in the Top 10 with a T-7th place tournament. Muller was -1 for the event after rounds of 70-73-69 – 212, rattling off 10 birdies in 54 holes. Zack Beard with a T-14 finish at +1. Beard’s rounds of 70-72-70 gave him a 214 total. Mason Butler finished T-14 as well (72-69-73 – 214). Justin Gabbard bounced back from a first round 79 with a 69 in round two and a 72 in round three for a 220 total and T-32 finish. Gabbard finished with eight birdies during the event.
Thursday, Oct. 17
- Women’s soccer took down the Detroit Mercy 4-1. Natalie Newman put NKU on the board first in the 37th minute on an assist from Greta Harmeyer. Erykah Cornett scored in the 58th minute to put NKU up 2-0. Lilly Yordy scored just 95 seconds later before scoring her second of the match in the 63rd minute. Oakland netted a goal in the 77th minute, but it was too little, too late as NKU held on for the win. Yordy had a second half offensive explosion with a pair of goals. Yordy now leads the Norse in both goals and assists with four of each. Cornett netted her second goal of the season. Natalie Newman put NKU on the board with a bottom corner goal in the first half. Megan Gessner played the majority of the match in goal for NKU, and saved a huge Oakland penalty kick in the 56th minute. Gessner made two saves in 72 minutes. NKU held a 21-11 advantage in shots, an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Friday, Oct. 18
- Men’s and women’s cross country competed in a pair of different races one of which being the Bradley “Pink” Classic in Illinois and the other being the JennaStrong CC Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio. Men (BPC Red Race): 26th (715), Women (BPC Red Race): 31st (903). Men (Jenna Strong CC 8k): 12th (312), Women (JennaStrong CC 5k): 4th (149). Men Bradley Pink Classic: Colton O’Hara led the men in the 8k, finishing 35th overall with a time of 24:24.29. O’Hara finished ahead of student-athletes from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Iowa, Michigan and Kansas State. Summit Northrup finished with a time of 25:59.26, crossing the finish line second amongst the Norse. Owen Mathews was next (26:04.90) followed by Samsun Weldemichael (26:20.67). Women Bradley Pink Classic: Brittany Arnold was the first Norse to cross the finish line, running the 6k in 22:56.80. Not far behind was Grace Biddle, who finished with a time of 22:57.40. Kaitlyn Strange was the third to finish for NKU at 23:21.90, with Macie Radcliffe fourth at 23:30.16. Julia Verhoff crossed just five seconds later. Women JennaStrong CC Fall Classic: Lauren Man crossed the finish line first among the NKU runners in 15th place with a time of 19:30.9. Not far behind was Chloe Boa, who finished in 19th (19:34.0). Abby Slife finished 40th (20:15.8), with Emma Greely finishing 46th (20:30.5). Men JennaStrong CC Fall Classic: Noah Pease was the first Norse across the finish line in the 8k, finishing with a time of 27:21.8. Gregory Beard finished 69th, four spots behind Pease with a time of 27:32.3. Nicholas Costas was third on the Norse with a time of 27:57.8. Preston Winiger finished 99th (28:17.4).
- Women’s volleyball won against Robert Morris 3-1. Northern Kentucky took the first set 25-20 before RMU evened the match in Set 2. NKU was down 13-10 in Set 3, but rattled off nine straight points and won the set 25-22, hitting .304 as a team.The Norse won the fourth set, hitting .324 to take home a victory 25-21.Northern Kentucky posted one of its most efficient offensive outputs of the season with 64 kills and a .282 hitting percentage as a team. Three Norse finished with 10+ kills. Joy Banks flirted with a 20/20 match, finishing with 20 kills and 19 digs while hitting .356. Lucy Cluxton, the defensive anchor for NKU, finished with a match-high 25 digs. Torie Houston finished with a double-double, posting 21 assists and 10 digs. Sydney Bray and Allison Risley each finished with 14 kills. Bray finished with a .400 hitting percentage, posting just two errors on 30 swings.
Saturday, Oct. 19
- Men’s Soccer’s historic unbeaten streak ends with a loss against IU Indy 2-1. NKU held a 9-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corners at halftime after a scoreless first 45 minutes. IU Indy scored in the 58th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but just 58 seconds later Tyler Murphy equalized the match. IU Indy scored the game-winner in the 81st minute. Tyler Murphy’s score notched his fourth goal of the season. He was assisted by Yonatan Cohen. The Norse held the shot advantage 22-5 but couldn’t get it done.
- Women’s volleyball fell to Robert Morris 3-0. Northern Kentucky fell in the first set 27-25. Robert Morris took the next two sets 25-20 and 25-19 to win the match. Northern Kentucky struggled offensively hitting just .117. Lucy Cluxton posted a team-high 18 digs. Both Joy Banks and Torie Houston posted double-doubles for the second straight match. Banks led NKU in kills with 11, while Houston’s 21 assists were a team-high.
Sunday, Oct. 20
- Women’s soccer beat Detroit Mercy 2-1. Northern Kentucky wasted no time in taking an early lead, as Lilly Yordy found herself in the right place at the right time to score to put NKU up 1-0. Yordy provided the service on NKU’s second goal, firing in a cross off a corner kick that found the head of Lydia Self for a 2-0 NKU lead. Detroit Mercy found the back of the net just 15 seconds later. NKU held on to win the match, thanks to a huge save off a free kick by Megan Gessner in the 87th minute. Northern Kentucky held the advantage in shots 10-8, while Detroit held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. Gessner made three huge saves.This win moved the women to second place in the Horizon League standings.
