Tuesday, Oct. 1
- Women’s golf played three rounds in two days, finishing 16th at the Butler Fall Invitational. Kenna Jenkinson finished T-59, the best of any Norse. Jenkinson fired rounds of 76, 74, and 80. Hailey Coleman was the lone Norse who finished all three rounds under 80 (78, 79, 77).
- Men’s golf finished second at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. Zack Beard led the Norse with a third place finish, marking his second straight Top Five finish and third straight Top 10. Beard finished -4 after two straight rounds of 68. tying his collegiate low round twice Mason Butler competed as an individual and finished eighth after rounds of 71 & 69. Luke Muller finished 15th at +1. Muller fired a 68 in the first round and a 73 in round two. Isaac Moody finished the tournament at +2 with rounds of 69 & 73. Cooper Eberle and Justin Gabbard finished at 41st and 51st. Brady Holmes finished T-41 alongside Eberle, shooting a 71 & 75 for a 146 total.
- Women’s volleyball lost to Wright State 3-0. The Norse put up a fight the whole game, keeping each set within three but Wright State was just too much. Allison Risley was the only Norse with double-digit kills, finishing with 11. Ivey Stocks finished with nine, her highest total of the season. Joy Banks finished with eight kills and nine digs. Lucy Cluxton’s 19 digs tied for a match high. Cluxton has posted 10+ digs in 13 straight matches.
Friday, Oct. 5
- Women’s volleyball beat Youngstown State 3-1. NKU fell in the first set 25-18. The Norse won in the second set by a score of 25-18. NKU came back from a 22-19 deficit in the third set to take down the Penguins 25-23 in the third set. Siefke’s back-to-back block solos won the set for the Norse. The Norse won the match with a victory in the fourth set by a score of 25-18. Banks finished with 12 kills and 16 digs. Lainey Green posted a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs. Ava Hoying finished with 12 kills. Cluxton with another 20+ dig effort, finishing with 21 digs. Allie Siefke dominated at the net, finishing with 4.5 total blocks including three block solos.
Saturday, Oct. 6
- Men’s and women’s swimming competed for the first time in school history at IU-Indy. The Norse had great performances from Patrick Gibbons and Frank Runge, who each finished Top three in individual events. Men’s 400 Yard Medley Relay: NKU: 7th (Brian Ridner, Tyler Cukovecki, Ethan Johnson, Patrick Gibbons), NKU: 8th (Ben Jorgensen, Jeffrey Wenker, Khizar Shah, Conner Norton). Men’s 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: NKU A: 4th (Conner Norton, Ben Jorgensen, Khizar Shah, Patrick Gibbons). NKU B: 7th (Frank Runge, Dimiter Zafirov, Jack Miranda, Jeffrey Wenker). Men’s 1000 Yard Freestyle: Frank Runge: 9:56.25 – 3rd, Jack Miranda: 10:26.66 – 4th. Men’s 200 Yard Freestyle: Patrick Gibbons: 1:44.91 – 4th, Dimiter Zafirov: 1:47.28 – 5th. Women’s 50 Yard Freestyle: Chloe Loftis: 28.46 – 5th. Men’s 50 Yard Freestyle: Conner Norton: 21.99 – 4th, Ben Jorgensen: 22.99 – 8th, Jeffrey Wenker: 23.13 – 10th, Khizar Shah: 23.37 – 11th. Men’s 200 Yard IM: Ethan Johnson: 1:59.37 – 4th, Tyler Cukovecki: 2:04.56 – 8th, Brian Ridner: 2:12.70 – 11th. Men’s 100 Yard Butterfly: Ethan Johnson: 54.17 – 5th, Khizar Shah: 56.91 – 7th. Women’s 100 Yard Freestyle: Chloe Loftis: 1:03.49 – 5th. Men’s 100 Yard Freestyle: Patrick Gibbons: 47.22 – 2nd, Conner Norton: 49.02 – 6th, Dimiter Zafirov: 50.19 – 7th, Ben Jorgensen: 50.84 – 9th. Men’s 100 Yard Backstroke: Jeffrey Wenker: 56.24 – 6th, Brian Ridner: 56.77 – 7th. Men’s 500 Yard Freestyle: Frank Runge: 4:50.56 – 3rd, Jack Miranda: 5:02.09 – 6th. Men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke:Tyler Cukovecki: 1:02.36 – 7th
- Men’s and women’s cross country competed at the Live in Lou XC Classic. The Men finished 17th (482 points) and the women finished 27th (752 points). For the men, Natael Weldemichael crossed the finish line first, finishing 19th with a time of 24:18.2 (4:53 mile pace). Colton O’Hara was not far behind, finishing 21st with a time of 24:19.5. Rounding out the top five for the Norse men were Stetson Childress, Samsun Weldemichael, and Nathan Ruth. For the women, Brittany Arnold, finished first with a time of 19:00.35. Grace Biddle finished second among NKU runners at 19:06.1. Rounding out the top five for the Norse were Carlie Condit, Allie Atchley, and Kaitlyn Strange.
- Women’s soccer draws level against Robert Morris 1-1. Lilly Yordy scored 21 seconds into the second half. Robert Morris evened the game in the 80th minute. The Norse held Robert Morris to only three shots, NKU also had 7 shots with 3 shots on goal.
- Women’s volleyball beat Youngstown State 3-2. NKU fell in the first set 25-22. The Norse won in set two by a score of 25-7 following a 16-0 run, NKU hit .471 in the set. NKU fell in the third set 25-15 but the Norse responded immediately with a 25-17 win in the fourth set, as Hoying provided the winning kill. Hoying came up clutch again in the fifth set with three kills including the winner to down the Penguins. Banks finished with 11 kills & 14 digs. Green posted a second straight double-double of her own with 18 assists and 10 digs. Hoying led the Norse with 14 kills while hitting .314. Hoying added three digs and 1.5 blocks. Cluxton with another 20+ dig effort, finishing with a season-high 29 digs, adding 10 assists for a double-double. Allie Siefke finishied with 4.5 total blocks including a block solo.
- Men’s soccer beat Cleveland State 2-1. Yonatan Cohen found the back of the net in the first minute of the game. Jason Purks gave the Norse some insurance in the 29th minute. Cleveland State scored in the 69th minunte but it wasn’t enough. Nic Lemen posted four saves. NKU had nine shots with four being on goal.
