The NKU Women’s Soccer team booked themselves a ticket to Milwaukee for the Horizon League Semi-Finals with their 1-0 defeat of Detroit Mercy Sunday afternoon.
The Norse started the quarter final strong, with their first shot taken within two minutes of the start of the game.
They would dominate possession for the majority of the first half, pressing to regain possession whenever they lost it.
The best chance for the Norse would come in the 40th minute with junior Lilly Yordy’s free kick hitting the crossbar.
Video review following the match would reveal the ball in fact crossed the line, and a goal should have been awarded.
Important defensive tackles from junior captain Lydia Self would keep the game tied up at halftime.
NKU would begin the second half with the same intensity, once again dominating possession and overpowering the visiting Detroit Mercy Titans.
Freshman Meghan Molner would give the Norse the lead in the 75th minute with the assist coming from sophomore Meghan Belrose.
The goal would be a reward for the Norse who had been on constant attack since the start of the second half.
A save off the line from Detroit keeper Jazmine Scott in the 76th minute would prevent NKU from extending their lead.
The women would retain possession for the remainder of the half and win the match 1-0.
The match proved to be very tame in comparison to their regular season matchup against the Titans, with a single yellow card issued to Detroit.
The Norse would dominate the statistics with 15 shots to Detroit’s 1.
NKU will head to Milwaukee for the Horizon League Semi-Finals on Wednesday, Nov 2. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ at 5 p.m.
