Horizon League postpones fall competition due to COVID-19
Soccer, volleyball, golf and cross country teams lose fall 2020 season
August 13, 2020
On Thursday, the Horizon League and its Board of Directors officially postponed competition for fall sports in the 2020 season.
The decision to postpone fall sports for the duration of the season comes almost one month after the Horizon League chose to delay competition until at least October 1, citing health concerns for student athletes, coaches and other affiliates with the teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Horizon League and its Board of Directors have not ruled out the possibility of playing fall sports in the spring of 2021, but the final decision will be made at a later date.
For NKU, this affects a variety of student athletes and programs across campus. Soccer, volleyball and cross country are the three sports that are affected, while golf will still plan on having their spring season, despite postponing fall competition.
Under the current guidelines put forth by the NCAA, Horizon League teams will still be permitted to practice, work out and hold meetings, as long as they continue to abide by the guidelines.
