Fall sports delayed to October 1
July 16, 2020
On Thursday, the Horizon League Council officially decided to postpone the beginning of fall sports competition until October 1.
The League and its Council members came to the decision with the interest of protecting the health and safety of the student athletes, coaches and any other affiliates that are associated with Horizon League teams as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
For NKU, this impacts a variety of sports that were originally scheduled to begin the fall season on time in the 2020-21 academic year, such as soccer, golf, cross country and volleyball.
Under the new guidelines, Horizon League teams will still be permitted to practice, work out and hold meetings as a team—as long as they conform to current NCAA guidelines. However, those decisions will be left up to Horizon League teams.
The NCAA, nor the Horizon League, has announced plans for winter sports at this time, which would affect Men’s and Women’s Basketball at NKU, among other sports.
