Women’s golf sets record in season opener
VIENNA, Ohio — Northern Kentucky’s women’s golf team set a new 36-hole school record Monday as they finished tied for second in the YSU kickoff.
NKU shot a 608 (303-305) on the Candywood Golf Course. The previous school record was 611, set at the 2007 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and tied at the 2015 Jackrabbit Invitational, according to a nkunorse.com press release.
Youngstown State won the four-team event. The Penguins shot 301-303 for a 604 total. Cleveland State tied NKU with a 608 (303-305). Chicago State finished fourth with a 620 (310-310).
Juniors Ryleigh Waltz and Sarah Kellam each shot 151 to lead the way for the Norse. Waltz shot 74-77 while Kellam shot 75-76. They tied for fifth overall.
Allison Leigeb was eighth with a 152 (76-76) while Tara Clark tied for ninth with a 154 (78-76).
Also competing for the Norse were Sirapassorn Cheepborisut, Shelby Power, Macy Wright, MacKenzie Laumann, Taylor Schwarz and Kristen Smith.
NKU will be in action again Sept. 13-14, when it hosts Dayton at the Elk Run Country Club in Batavia, Ohio.
