Donning throwback uniforms in honor of Throwback Night at Regents Hall, the NKU women’s basketball team lit up the scoreboard early and cruised to a 67-29 win over the North Florida Ospreys.

“I thought our kids really responded from the challenge of coming back from the loss to Jacksonville on Thursday night,” Plitzuweit said. “There was a great atmosphere at Regents. I think our administration and staff really did a great job to make this a very special environment to play in.”

Christine Roush led NKU scorers with 14 points and Kelly Wiegman added eight points.

“Coming into the game, each of us wanted to come in there and play as hard as we could,” Roush said. “It was my responsibility to play as hard as I could.”

After a three-pointer to start the game gave North Florida a brief 3-0 lead, NKU responded with a 9-0 run of its own to take a lead that they would not lose.

There was a period of six-and-a-half minutes where only one point was scored between the two teams. With NKU taking a 21-12 lead on a jump shot by Faith Sanders, a field goal would not be scored by either team until NKU’s Shar’Rae Davis nailed a three-point basket at the 3:20 mark in the first half.

“I thought there were a couple of stretches during the game where weren’t making shots, but getting good looks,” Plitzuweit said.

The Norse would extend their lead even more in the final 3:20 of the first half to take a 33-15 lead into halftime.

NKU came out in the second half and began right where they left off, leading once by 28 points, which was the result of a 7-0 run early in the half.

The 29 points allowed by the Norse defense is the lowest point total NKU has given up all season.

“Our mission was to play as hard as we could,” Plitzuweit said. “I think we did a much better job rebounding than we did on Thursday.”

The win improved the Norse’s record to 15-12 overall and an even 6-6 in the conference. The Norse are still in fourth place in the conference which, if they finish in that place, would allow them to host a first-round game in the conference tournament.

“We’re focusing on what we need to do to play our best basketball at this point in the season,” Plitzuweit said.

The Norse return to The Bank of Kentucky Center on Feb. 25 to host Kennesaw State at 7:00 P.M on Senior Night.

The game was the first home game outside of The Bank of Kentucky Center since the arena’s opening in 2008. The game was moved to NKU’s former home gym due to a scheduling conflict with The Bank of Kentucky Center.

“It was certainly a little bit different, but it was a lot of fun,” Plitzuweit said. “I think sometimes you’re in a different scenario, different environment and your players respond really well and our players did tonight.”
