The NKU athletics department announced it will induct its Hall of Fame class of 2015, which includes six individual student-athletes and one team, on Feb. 8 during homecoming week.

Bryan Jackson, Eva Broeg, Michael “Walt” Kelsey, Mark Welage, Jessica Buroker, Rick Meyers and the 2008 women’s basketball National Championship team were all selected for induction into the NKU athletics Hall of Fame.

“The Hall of Fame provides a great opportunity to recognize and honor those individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and honor of Northern Kentucky University in athletics,” Athletic Director Ken Bothof said in a statement released by NKUNorse.com. “We are excited to welcome this exceptional group of people to the highest honor given in athletics.”

Bryan Jackson, an outfielder for the NKU baseball team, ended his NKU playing days with a .386 career-batting average (sixth all-time) and 204 hits (ninth all-time). Other school record rankings for Jackson include second in stolen bases (66), fourth in runs scored (155) and ninth in slugging percentage (.594).

Broeg, a four-year starter for the women’s soccer team from 1998-2001, led the Norse to four consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference titles and three NCAA Final Four appearances, including a National Championship appearance in 2000.

Kelsey is well-known to the basketball program, as he is first all-time in minutes played (3,861) and average minutes played per game (33.6). Kelsey is known for his 50-point performance against Indianapolis in 2004. His name goes far beyond the court as well, where he was twice named the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Other school record rankings include third in three-pointers (285) and tenth in career free throw percentage (81.3 percent).

Noted as one of the most decorated Norse of all time, Welage graduated All-GLVC, NKU all-academic and academic all-GLVC each of his four years on campus. He also led NKU to the 1996 Division II National Championships, where the Norse finished 12th.

A member of the volleyball team from 1997-2000, Buroker made a name for herself  by leading the Norse to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight twice and one Final Four. She helped the program win four consecutive GLVC Championships and became the first Norse to be named  an AVCA First Team All-American. Buroker was also named to the NCAA Regional Tournament Team three times in her career.

After serving four years as NKU’s student sports information director, Rick Meyers became the Norse’s first full-time sports information director, where he served until 1986 when he moved to the NKU media relations department. Meyers has won 14 College Sports Information Directors of America awards and also served as the GLVC SID for 17 years. He was inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame in 2009.

The 2008 NKU women’s basketball team, led by storied head coach Nancy Winstel, won the school’s second NCAA national championship by overcoming a 12-point deficit to defeat South Dakota. The Norse finished 28-8 overall in the 2007-08 season, winning 10 of its final 11 games. The program also won the 2000 NCAA national championship. The official induction ceremony will take place during homecoming week, Sunday, Feb. 8, on the John L. Griffin Concourse at The Bank of Kentucky Center at 1:00 p.m.
