The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team competed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Oct. 11 and 12 in Indianapolis.
After ending a five-year streak of first-round losses by defeating Southern Indiana in straight sets on Oct. 11, the Norse were defeated in the semifinals by Indianapolis the next day.
NKU, ranked fourth in the tournament, defeated fifth-seeded Southern Indiana for the third time this season, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24, to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2005. Senior outside hitters Noelle Peterson and Sarah Drennen led the way for the offense with 11 kills apiece.
The Norse were back in action the next day and lost to top-seeded Indianapolis in four sets, 25-21, 31-29, 22-25, 25-20. Drennen finished the game with 19 kills and Peterson added 14 kills in the defeat. Drennen reached a career milestone in the game by recording her 1,000 career kill as a Norse. She became just the 15th player in NKU history to accomplish the feat.
NKU will face Lewis in the opening round of the Midwest Regional on Oct. 18. The game will be at 5 p.m. as the Norse look to end a four-game losing streak to Lewis.
