Welcome to The Northerner’s ongoing coverage of Election Day 2024.
We’ll be bringing you updates all night on national and state-wide elections, from the presidential election to the amendments on Kentucky’s ballot and more.
For the presidential race, the candidates on the ballot were:
- Donald J. Trump (Republican Party)
- Kamala D. Harris (Democratic Party)
- Jill Stein (Kentucky Party)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Independent Party)
- Shiva Ayyadurai (Independent Party)
- Chase Oliver (Libertarian Party)
It is important to note Kennedy was not on the ballot in all states.
In order to be declared the winner of the presidential election, a candidate must earn at least 270 electoral votes, out of 538.
It is likely the outcome of the presidential election will not be known by the end of the night. In 2020, it took four days for Joe Biden to be officially declared the winner.
This year, the election will be largely dependent on the following battleground states and when their polls close:
- Georgia (7 p.m. ET)
- North Carolina (7:30 p.m. ET)
- Pennsylvania (8 p.m. ET)
- Michigan (9 p.m. ET)
- Wisconsin (9 p.m. ET)
- Arizona (9 p.m. ET)
- Nevada (10 p.m. ET)
For state-wide elections, we’ll look at the most important updates in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.
In Kentucky, Constitutional Amendments 1 and 2 are hot topics on the ballot.
Amendment 1 would amend the Kentucky State Constitution to add clear language prohibiting all noncitizens from voting in elections in the Commonwealth.
Amendment 2 would allow for public funding to be used outside the public school system. While the amendment would not immediately create these programs or vouchers in Kentucky, it would allow for the creation of them in the future.
In Ohio, one of the biggest races on the ballot is the spot for U.S. Senate. The race is between Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown and Republican Bernie Moreno.
Check in with us all night as we bring you updates on all the races and issues you care about. Share with us your photos and updates from Election Day via Instagram and X @northernermedia to be featured.
