The annual Student Government Association (SGA) elections are around the corner, with voting taking place on March 27-28.
Two slates have announced their campaign for the president/vice president seats: Lucy Burns/Collin Jarrell and Tyana Rasberry/Bryanna Hall.
Burns/Jarrell
Third-year environmental science and integrative studies major Lucy Burns highlighted her long-standing SGA involvement on the slate’s Instagram page. Burns serves as the current SGA vice president under Isaiah Phillips and has also held the University Improvements chair and vice chair roles.
Collin Jarrell is in his first-year at NKU and a general business major. Jarrell is a current SGA senator and is also part of the Future Leaders Internship Program (FLIP), where he travels to Frankfort to work with a state senator.
The Burns/Jarrell slate highlighted three pillars in their campaign to “Fuel Ambition and Ignite Change”: empower, engage and excel.
The duo wants to empower students to be aware of campus resources and pass resolutions to eliminate communication issues within the university. Through engagement, the slate wants to help students get involved on campus, sponsor more events and promote SGA’s funding committee to make organizations aware of funding opportunities. By hosting professional development events and encouraging students to make change, Burns/Jarrell hopes to fulfill the excel pillar.
The pair released a campaign video on March 25, discussing in further detail their involvements and campaign platform.
Rasberry/Hall
Bardstown, Kentucky native Tyana Rasberry serves as the current SGA Student Rights and Advocacy chairwoman. Raspberry is also involved in Activities Programming Board and Norse Violence Prevention, among other organizations. The second-year student studies criminal justice.
Bryanna Hall is from Cincinnati and majors in sports business, event management and marketing. Hall is also in her second year at NKU and is a part of Presidential Ambassadors and NKU R.O.C.K.S.
Rasberry/Hall’s platform focuses on making NKU their V.I.P. (Vibrant Innovative Place for all), according to their Instagram page.
The duo explained the platform on Instagram, breaking down each letter of the acronym. They seek to enhance “campus life, student experience and academic success,” as well as make positive changes to the university.
The slate further explained their platform in a presentation, saying they want to collaborate with other organizations and create new events. They also hope to create opportunities for all students, including under-represented groups like international students and those with disabilities.
