Monday’s SGA meeting included the appointment of two new senators and a new member to their executive board as well as the reading of a new resolution proposed by Chairperson of University Improvements Jimmy Renton and Senator Lucy Burns.
Appointment of new members
Freshman and undecided major Garrett Scott was appointed as senator as well as junior journalism major Evan Bales.
Previous SGA senator and senior biology major Jackson Coates was appointed as the new chairman of student advocacy.
Coates is currently involved with Leadership Mentors, serves as the American Ambassador for the International Student Union, and participates in cross-country and track.
Coates showed enthusiasm for wanting to really step into this role and serve the student body.
“I’m confident in my abilities to communicate and organize and to synthesize my ideas and figure out where to put our efforts and how to most effectively get things done,” Coates said.
SGA officially met quorum with the appointment of these three new members and can now conduct business and pass resolutions.
Resolution proposal
Nearing the end of the meeting, members read the proposal to a resolution by Renton and Burns — one that has been in the works for nearly six months — that calls for the creation of an official office of sustainability.
Renton noted in the resolution that an official office of sustainability would better coincide with sustainability requirements and NKU’s commitment made to Cincinnati 2030, a membership organization facilitated by the leader of a regional sustainability alliance, Green Umbrella.
This is the first resolution proposed thus far into the semester.
