SGA discussed recruitment, social media protocols and health guidelines in a brief meeting on Monday.

SGA did not meet quorum, which is the minimum number of members that must be present at a meeting to make the proceedings valid, at the meeting in order to proceed further with any resolutions, President Lauren Goodwin said. A resolution on the alcohol policy was tabled until more members can be present.

SGA members were encouraged to recruit more freshmen to sign up for the organization.

Freshman candidates must submit a completed election packet online no later than Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 4:30 p.m. and must also submit their Itemized Expenditure Report form no later than Monday, Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. The forms are available under SGA’s MyEngagement page.

Freshman elections will take place Sept. 2 through Sept. 3.

During the meeting, Chief of Staff Jacob Wilson said members should remember to remain responsible when posting about SGA-related issues on their social media.

“Don’t really feel the need, if somebody does post something negative, to immediately respond. That’s not the most productive way to get things done,” Wilson said. “Sit down, have a conversation with that person, and listen to their concerns and then go from there. I’m really trying to avoid a lot of social media bashing and whatnot.”

During the advisor report, Sarah Aikman, director of the student union, reminded members of the health and safety guidelines imposed throughout the campus.

“I would just encourage you all to encourage your friends to wear their masks, especially when they’re outside, and to not group together unless you are six feet apart, especially in the cafeteria,” Aikman said.

Furniture, such as chairs, cannot be moved by students because it violates social distancing requirements, according to Aikman.

Ronald Delgado, chairman of the student advocacy committee, was also recognized as the SGA member of the week.
