What you missed at SGA Jan. 22

The Student Government Association planned their annual scholarship fair and addressed new complaints at their meeting on Monday. Here’s what you missed at SGA on 1/22:

Landrum desks among student concerns

SGA read a complaint from a student calling to replace the desks in the Landrum Academic Center.

The student said the small desks in the LAC are harder to use for larger individuals, and that replacing the desks with tables and chairs would accomodate all body types.

“I am in a three hour class where I can’t take notes, I am uncomfortable and all I can focus on is not fitting in the desk,” the student’s complaint read. “It is so embarrassing.”

SGA passed a resolution in 2014 to replace desks in the LAC and Founders Hall.

SGA also read complaints about mandatory Campus Recreation Center fees and a university housing complaint which were resolved at the meeting.

Upcoming events

SGA will host a Scholarship Fair in the Student Union to help students learn about financial resources to pay for college.

SGA will also raffle off a $250 book grant scholarship at the fair, which will be held in the SU Ballroom on Wednesday from 10-2.

SGA Pres. Sami Dada also reminded senators to sign up for the Rally for Higher Education, a protest against education cuts held by the Board of Student Body Presidents.

50 spots are available, and interested students can sign up now on OrgSync. Visit the SGA Facebook page for more information.
