The number of students eligible to graduate at this spring’s commencement ceremony on May 10 is slightly larger than the previous fall semester and last spring, according to Krista Wiseman-Moore, Manager of Special Events and Stewardship.

“In the last few years it’s been going up a little bit, just a little bit more than the year prior,” Wiseman-Moore said. “May [commencement] tends to be a little bigger than December, even though the December ceremonies include August and December [graduates].’

This May, 1,670 NKU students are eligible to walk at graduation, compared to 1,643 eligible students from last May.

Wiseman-Moore said that individual programs have developed significantly within the College of Informatics.

“Informatics seems to be growing really fast. I think so many of those programs are new and emerging,” Wiseman-Moore said. “So many of them are cutting-edge professions.”

She also stated that the social work major within the College of Arts and Sciences has experienced tremendous growth after adding a master’s program.

According to Kathy Stewart, Director of Special Events, three separate commencement ceremonies will take place in the Bank of Kentucky Center on May 10, 2014.

Morning Ceremony

At 9 a.m., the commencement ceremony for graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Informatics will take place. The doors open at 8 a.m. Dr. T. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, will speak. He will receive an Honorary Doctor of Business degree.

Afternoon Ceremony

At 2 p.m., the commencement ceremony for graduates from the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Health Professions, and the Haile/US Bank College of Business will take place. The doors open at 1 p.m. Dr. Leon E. Boothe, NKU president emeritus, will speak. He will receive an honorary Doctor of Educational Leadership degree.

Evening Ceremony

At 6 p.m., the commencement ceremony for graduates from the Chase College of Law will take place. A graduate reception will begin at 4 p.m. and doors to the ceremony open at 5:30 p.m. Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Michelle Keller, a Chase Law School alum, will speak. She will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Wiseman-Moore stressed that graduates should be on time for commencement and that any questions can referred to the office of Special Events and Stewardship or Career Services.
