The Northern Kentucky University Volleyball team has been hard at work as it faced a busy schedule.
The Norse went in with a record of 3-2, having already defeated Lindsay Wilson, Thomas More and Central Oklahoma.
During the weekend of Sept. 5, the Norse (7-2) played in the Holiday Inn Invitational Tournament in Charleston, W. Va.
The team swept the tournament, not losing a set while in this tournament.
The first game was against Concord University. NKU’s key players in this game were senior Kelsey Wesaw (opposite hitter), sophomore Annie Lucas (middle back) and senior Kristina Eisenmenger (OPP). Lucas and Eisenmenger each had eight kills and Wesaw had 10.
Next on the list was West Virginia State. Once again, the Norse had a three set sweep to defeat the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Sarah Drennen (outside hitter), sophomore Kim Nemcek (middle hitter) and Eisenmenger dominated. Eisenmenger had 14 kills, Nemcek with seven, and Drennen with six kills.
The next opponent for the Norse was Charleston (W. Va.). Nemcek, Wesaw, and Eisenmenger played a big part in the win.
Nemcek had 10 kills along with 11 digs. Wesaw had 11 kills and Eisenmenger had 14.
Glenville State just couldn’t keep up with NKU as they fell in three sets to the Norse. Freshman Noelle Peterson, Nemcek, and Wesaw helped the ladies pull out the victory. Peterson came away with nine kills while Wesaw had 10 and Nemcek had 11 kills and seven digs.
The Norse stayed in action as they played Sept. 9 at Kentucky Wesleyan, winning all three sets.
They also play on Sept. 12 at Wisconsin-Parkside, and Sept. 13 at Lewis. Then the Lady Norse come home as they will play against Saint Joseph’s Sept. 19 starting at 7 p.m. and against Indianapolis Sept. 20 starting at 3 p.m.
