It looked bleak early last Friday against Missouri-Rolla, but ended up with all smiles as the Northern Kentucky University Women’s Soccer team has done so often this year. It came off the mat and continued its winning ways.
Nearing the 38th minute of the game NKU found itself trailing 2-0. It also was getting out played as Missouri-Rolla out shot them 10-5 in the first half, a very physical play for Missouri.
NKU did not get on the board till the 57th minute of the game, when freshman Megan Smith scored her first goal this year, the goal came off of a pass by senior Cara Alldred, this was her conference-leading 6th assist of the year. Fifteen minutes later the Norse knotted the game up at 2-2, as Morgan Price kicked in her first goal of the year. Not far after that NKU went up for good as sophomore Ashley Warndorf netted her third goal of the season. From there it was Jenna Kramer who had a season high four saves to hold Missouri-Rolla at bay.
The win moved NKU to a still perfect 8-0 and 4-0 in GLVC play.
The winning streak moved to nine with a 2-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis, Sept. 23.
Smith scored the first goal of the game in the 64th minute. Alldred tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st minute to seal the win.
The No. 9 NKU Women’s Soccer Team will play host to Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, 5 p.m., Sept. 28 in Wilder, Ky.
