Police have identified an 18-year-old Hispanic man who died after accidentally falling from a tobacco barn rafter.
Felipe Perez Barcenas of Dickson suffered severe head and neck injuries when he fell more than 12 feet to the ground Saturday, police said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Several co-workers who tried to catch Barcenas told police he was standing on an upper tier of the building and lost his footing while trying to move some tobacco for curing.
“From all indications, it appears it was a tragic accident,” said Ted Denny, spokesman for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s department.
He said authorities were delayed in identifying Barcenas because they had trouble tracking down his brothers in Georgia and family in Mexico.
Denny said Barcenas was a legal immigrant from Mexico who was working in Montgomery County.
