3. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal become cowboys with benefits in “Brokeback Mountain,” which opens Friday, Dec. 9.

2. Local rock ‘n’ roll bands such as Rescue Effort, Krinj and Ellison benefit Toys for Tots and Red Cross Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Southgate House. You must be 21 or over to attend. Tickets are $5 dollars and the show begins at 9 p.m.
