The adoption of a plus/minus grading system could come to vote at the next Faculty Senate meeting Sept. 19.

The grading system, which was proposed last semester by the Professional Concerns Committee and tabled until this fall, will have 12 steps instead of the five steps NKU currently uses.

Under the five-step grading system of A, B, C, D and F, an A represents 4.0 quality points, a B represents 3.0 quality points, a C represents 2.0 quality points, a D represents 1.0 quality points and an F represents zero quality points.

The grading system will add or subtract a third of a quality point to a grade. The committee believes that in order to retain 4.0 as the highest possible GPA, an A must be the highest grade and that a failure should carry no quality points.

They must have two-thirds vote of those present and voting, according to their constitution.

The Faculty Senate meeting will be at 3 p.m., Sept. 19 in the University Center Ballroom.
