In the semester’s final Hot Seat, John Rasp sits down with Matt Wiedeman. Wiedeman is a starting pitcher for the NKU baseball team. He currently has a record of 7-1 with a 3.31 ERA. He has struck out 44 in 69 innings pitched while giving up just 68 hits. John Rasp: How fast is your fastball? Matt Wiedeman: If I’m lucky, 82 m.p.h.
JR: What are the different pitches that you have? MW: Fastball, curveball and a changeup.
JR: Which NKU baseball player would be most likely to get a hit off of you? MW: Alex Frank.
JR: As a pitcher, do you ever brush someone back from the plate? MW: If I have to, I will.
JR: Out of the NKU pitchers, which one is the best hitter? MW: Justin Seiter.
JR: Which NKU player would be most likely to get thrown out of a game? MW: Me. I don’t know how to shut up.
JR: What position player on the NKU baseball team could strike you out? MW: Anyone could strike me out. I’m terrible at hitting.
JR: What kind of superstitions do you have? MW: I have to say a little prayer before I throw the first pitch. Other than that, I don’t have any other superstitions.
JR: What position would you be playing if you weren’t playing pitcher? MW: I’m too slow to play any other position. I wouldn’t be playing.
JR: What team do you most want to beat this year? MW: This weekend series against Quincy is a pretty big series.
(By the way, NKU won three out of four games.)
