Over the past few years, the members of Krinj have created quite a big following in the local music scene with their “new alternative rock” sound.

The band’s new lineup is finally in place, and they hope to have their second CD out by mid-summer of 2004.

Members, Brandon Migliorisi (lead vocals, guitars), Ben Franks (bass, vocals), Ian Bolender (lead guitar, vocals), and Markie Schulte (drums, percussion) finalized the group in 2003 after former member Kelly Ossege left the band in December of 2002.

The group recruited Schulte as a replacement.

After changing the lineup, the band said it has developed its sound, point of view and knowledge of the music world.

“We have since become much more professionally minded as far as playing showcases and opening up for national acts,” said Bolender, an undeclared sophomore at NKU.

Krinj has shared the stage with national acts such as Koufax, Tokyo Rose, and Hey Mercedes.

Krinj has been making quite a name for themselves at venues such as The Mad Frog, Radio Down and York Street Cafe.

The band also performed at NKU’s Residential Village for a continuing series of concerts called “Rock the Halls.”

The band has been performing quite a bit recently in order to promote its new CD, scheduled for release this summer.

“We’ve been working on the CD for seven months, but money has been an issue,” said Schulte, a senior history major.

“We already owe Brandon a ton of money and have to repay him before we spend more money.”

But Krinj said that with a lot of positive attitude, hard work, and CD promotion, the album should be quite a success.

This frame of mind has helped to create a large fan base for the group.

With musical influences such as Coheed and Cambria, Third Eye Blind, Ani DiFranco, and Abandoned Pools, Krinj’s music has a pop, radio-friendly sound, with a few emotionally, dark songs.

Songs such as “Our Last Night” shine with strong high notes and melodic guitar parts.

Other songs such as “Not That I Care” and “Dream” are so amazingly catchy that you can’t help but sing along.

While on stage, Krinj has a few of their own favorites.

“‘Nothing Left’ is a great song. I feel like it has the most raw emotion of any song I’ve ever played,” said Migliorisi, an undeclared sophomore.

The pop-like melodies and clean vocals can be compared to the likes of The Juliana Theory or Anadivine.

While most of the band’s lyrics may pertain to everyday life, band members hope to make a strong impression on the music scene and have fun doing it.

“I just want to get successful enough to use the band as a means of saying thank you to everyone in my life”, Bolender said.

So while the CD is still in the works, Krinj will continue to perform at local venues.
