10 things to do during Welcome Week

We know you’re not ready for class to start. We’re not either — so we compiled 10 things to do during Victorfest that will help you make the most of Welcome Week.

 

 

Thursday, August 18

Welcome Picnic

You’ll need to fill up before an evening full of games and fun activities! Students and their families can pig out at the annual Welcome Picnic and meet the campus community. The Welcome Picnic is from 11-2 p.m. in the Student Union Plaza.

GloCade

 

GloCade makes all of your favorite games a little brighter… literally!

This GloCade event will  feature all glow in the dark games — from corn hole, foosball and shuffleboard — to three-hole mini golf, ping pong and even labyrinth! DJ Underground, the DJ for NKU athletics, will provide the music. GloCade will take place on the Intramural Fields at 8 p.m.  

 

 

 

 

Friday, August 20

 

A Night at the Union

Students will be busy at the Student Union this night. From 8-9:30 p.m. there will be Bingo, a Super Smash Bros. Tournament, a Texas Hold’em Tournament and a photo booth. If that isn’t enough to keep you busy, Ran’D Shine, a new millennium magician will be reading minds and wowing students with his illusions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saturday, August 20

Beach Party at Campus Rec

The Campus Recreation Center is hosting a beach party with everything but the sand and surf. Starting at 7:30 p.m., students can extend their summer vacation a little bit longer and listen to Chicago’s Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band.

Watch “Jaws” from the Olympic-sized swimming pool at 9:45 p.m. The beach party will also feature balloon artists, face painters, a caricature artist as well as free food and drinks.

 

Monday, August 22

Outdoor Movie, “Deadpool”

Bring your blankets and popcorn. At 9 p.m. in the Science Center Lawn, “Deadpool” will be playing on the big screen. Tickets are free and available at Student Union. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Student Union Ballroom.

 

 

Tuesday, August 23

Hypnotist Dale K

Prepare to have your mind blown — Hypnotist Dale K will perform two shows in the Student Union Ballroom, the first at 7 p.m. and the other at 9 p.m. You don’t need a ticket to attend, but prepare to arrive early, as guests will be seated on a first come, first serve basis.   

 

Wednesday, August 24

Inclusive Excellence Mixer

The Center for Student Inclusiveness is holding a “Nacho Average Mixer” from 3-5 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Students will be able to learn more about the organization’s programs, while indulging in some cheesy treats at the free nacho bar. There will also be food, drinks, a photo booth and free giveaways.

After filling up with nachos, students can unwind while listening to The Filharmonic. This group of Filipino-American youngsters, featured in “Pitch Perfect 2” will be performing in the Student Union Ballroom at 7 p.m.

 

Thursday, August 25

Step In Speak Up

Step In Speak Up is an event to encourage a culture of intolerance towards sexual violence at NKU. Join the NKU community on the Student Union plaza for food, music, giveaways, as well as resources for those wanting to learn more about #StepInSpeakUpNKU. The event will take place 11-2 p.m.

Rock N Jock

Campus Recreation and Fraternity and Sorority Life will be hosting sand volleyball tournaments at the Sand Volleyball Court. The games start at 6 p.m. and are free to enter. Men, women and co-rec teams will all compete in the tournaments. Rock N Jock provides students with a way to meet and get to know some of the members from NKU Greek Life.

 

Saturday, August 27

Paint Wars

Be prepared to get pelted with paint and make a huge mess. Be sure to wear white! This colorful war will return to the grass in front of the Honors House. Colors will fly starting at 2 p.m.
