The 2013 homecoming committee has almost doubled the size of past committees with 12-13 members involved in the planning, according to senior public relations major and committee member Ron Burse.
“Students are way more involved and engaged with the planning of homecoming this year,” Burse said.
Homecoming activities kick off Jan. 18 with The Nearly Naked Run and will conclude with the men’s and women’s basketball games against Kennesaw State University. Although most of the homecoming activities happen annually, there have been some changes.
In the past, homecoming nominees have attended an hour-long Presidential Tea, but this year that has been cancelled due to conflicting schedules, Burse said. Instead there will be a Royal Reception during the men’s and women’s basketball games.
Burse said the biggest change this year was that everything moved to being online. OrgSync was the hub for most activity, where nominations could be made.
The duke and duchess will be announced at the gala on Jan. 23, along with the top five homecoming court candidates for prince, princess, king and queen. Prince and princess will be coronated during Yell Like Hell at the men’s basketball game against Mercer University. King and queen will be announced during the homecoming game.
