Northern Kentucky University’s very own equestrian team competed this past weekend at the University of Louisville and will compete at Morehead State University Feb. 11.
NKET was formed on NKU’s campus in 2008, so it is still a relatively new organization but NKET president Nicole Kallmeyer had nothing but encouraging words for this young team.
“We currently have five riders qualifying for regionals,” Kallmeyer said. With the show coming up this weekend, Kallmeyer hopes more riders will qualify.
NKET rides in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, which is a nationwide organization as well as in the Intercollegiate Saddle Seat Riding Association, which is relatively new.
The team consists of 21 female riders and three male riders that compete in three different divisions, hunt seat, western and saddle seat. Although the disciplines the members compete in varies, they are very much one team that has hopes to do well in the upcoming tournament Martin said.
You can access videos of competitions on the Norseequestrian channel on YouTube.
