Loch Norse Magazine is an undergraduate literary magazine published annually by NKU students. Any student with any major is eligible to submit work.
For over 10 years, Loch Norse Magazine has provided students with peer-driven creative works including poems, short stories and visual art. Every student has the chance to get their piece published in print.
“The main goal of Loch Norse Magazine is to spread and share creativity across multiple forms. We aim to create a space for students to share their art and to spark a passion for the arts that lives on past their time at NKU,” says Co-Editor-in-Chief Ezra Knapp.
Loch Norse also hosts special events to bring the community together. They hold Open Mic Nights monthly in the Eva Farris Reading Room on the second floor of Steely Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Each night is based around a local, featured writer who comes to read their work and answer questions. After that, students are free to read aloud their own written work. This semester, Open Mic Nights are on Tuesday, March 4 and Thursday, April 24, which is also the launch party for this year’s magazine.
“When an open mic is over, we leave more connected and as better people. Our magazine continues the good work the open mic does by placing the beauty of language and human experience together in the physical space of the pages,” said advisor and English professor Kelly Moffett.
To those nervous about submitting, Co-Editor-in-Chief Kariana Wyatt offered advice.
“Whatever you’re worried about, embrace it,” Wyatt said. She expressed the need for difference and “weirdness” in submissions, as she wants students to be nothing but themselves.
Submissions are open until Feb. 21. More information about Loch Norse Magazine, Open Mic Nights and submission guidelines can be found on their website or on their Instagram @lochnorsemagazine.
