On Feb. 11, 2010, Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Nope planned the first Galentine’s Day on the comedy sitcom “Parks and Rec.” In the episode, the women go out to brunch with mimosas, gifts and balloons, leaving the men in their lives behind to celebrate being women. “Ladies celebrating ladies,” said Knope.
Since then, the world has dedicated Feb. 13 as a day to celebrate friendship between women just as they did in the episode. A few fun events are happening around Greater Cincinnati to check out with your girls.
Galentine’s Glam & Glow
A plethora of “experiences” to choose from at this well-thought-out girls’ night. Choose two or three experience stations to be involved in, which include skin consultations, red light metabolic with Cincinnati Skin Center, reset station with Damron Chiropractic, mini hair stylings with Salon Shae and Bridal and so many more.
In between your dedicated stations, enjoy fun-filled activities such as playing Galentine’s bingo, shopping with local businesses, connecting with new friends, grabbing photos at the photo-ops and enjoying mocktails.
Celebrate this BFF night on Feb. 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Oakley Kitchen in Cincinnati.
“Golden Girls” Murder Mystery Dinner
What better way to spend your night out with your gals other than celebrating the most famous girl group there is?
Join Cincinnati’s longest-running murder mystery show on Feb. 15 from 6-9 p.m. to solve who is the convict. This hilarious bunch is about to solve this case at The Oscar Station at Jungle Jim’s.
A ticket includes buffet style dinner, non-alcoholic drinks, prizes for “Golden Girls” trivia and a cash bar.
Galentine’s Day at the Potted Palm
Combine your love for your girlfriends with your love of plants. With a $15 admission ticket, enjoy snacks, free pot drilling and a glass of tea. You can check out plant gifts and jewelry made by local artists.
Potted Palm encourages you to bring your own drink, and check out their Galentine’s Day theme, green store.
These botanical activities are on Feb. 15 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Cincinnati Observatory’s Galentine’s Celebration
Starting at 11 a.m. on Feb. 16, a spectacular Galentine’s will be held in the Observatory.
A coffee bar, brunch (with vegetarian options), mimosa bar, mocktails, mini-manicures and other activities will be set up for you to toast your friendship
The event is for ages 21+ and is $60 per person. If the sky is clear enough, solar viewing will occur. Goody bags will be given to everyone celebrating.
DIY: A house party
The comfort of your own home is the perfect Galentine’s Day spot.
Invite the gals over, create a potluck or order a pizza and spend the evening doing the girliest things. Throw in a movie with the girl boss main characters like, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Bring It On” or “Pitch Perfect.”
Some fun trends the girls are doing at home include: sip and paint, decorating claw clips, spa night, PowerPoint night and game night.
