From Feb. 3-9, NKU will be celebrating homecoming week through events celebrating students’ favorite childhood cartoons.
Organizations throughout campus have the choice to participate, organizing them into categories based on their total number of members: gold, black and white divisions.
Four competitions will take place between the homecoming-enthused organizations throughout the week: Banner Decorating, Helmet Decorating, Spirit Week Competition and Window Painting.
Banner Decorating, Window Painting and Helmet Decorating are split into themes based on each division. The white division (0-19 members) is Cartoon Network-themed. The black division (20-39 members) is Nickelodeon cartoon-themed. Finally, the gold division (40+ members) has the theme of Disney cartoons.
The Banner Decorating and the Window Painting competitions were judged on Dec. 3 and Helmet Decorating was voted on at the Homecoming Kick-off on Monday.
The Spirit Week Competition consists of daily themes for students to show their school spirit through. Monday is NKU Spirit Day, Tuesday is Pajama Day, Wednesday is “Norse-ify” your Fav Cartoon Character, Thursday is Hero/Villain Day and Friday is Duo/Trio/Group Character Day.
All students have to do to enter to win prizes is tag the Center for Student Engagement or use #NorseTunes on a social post. Both organizations and individuals can participate in this event.
Other students not involved in an organization have an abundance of ways to be involved as well other than the Spirit Week Competition.
On Monday, the second annual Homecoming Kick-off took place with a multitude of fun-filled activities. On Tuesday, the Black Student Union and the Homecoming Committee presented an improv comedy night called Wild ‘N Out, Norse-ified of course. On Wednesday, two fun events took place: Pop-a-shot to relieve some school work stress will be in the Student Union, and the men’s basketball game against Cleveland State will take place with the announcement of sophomore/junior royalty.
On Thursday, the Activities Programming Board is throwing a silent disco to dance the night away. The NPHC stroll-off will take place on Friday.
Last but certainly not least, on Saturday, the homecoming tailgate will take place before the men’s basketball game against Robert Morris. The day will consist of a three-hour tailgate, an exciting game, the announcement of the homecoming competition winners and the crowning of senior royalty at halftime of the game.
