NKU students gathered Thursday on a mission to save lives. Hoxworth held a blood drive in the University ballroom from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several stations lined the room, ready for donors.
Students who donated were given food, drinks and a pair of NKU sweatpants for their generosity. Donor Care Technician Brandy Wade said every blood donation saves three lives.
“Hoxworth helps those we love in our community, as they serve more than 30 hospitals in the tri-state area. I hope to see a great turnout. Taking blood all day long is the goal,” said Wade.
Asia, a Donor Care Technician, wants students to be excited about giving blood.
“They get to learn their blood type and how rare their blood is,” she said, urging students to drink plenty of water the day and morning of their donation. She stressed the importance of staying calm, as it keeps those around you relaxed and keeps you safe.
“It is so healthy for their body, and the thought of those three lives they save should put all those nerves in the back of their mind.”
Students who missed the blood drive on campus can schedule an appointment at Hoxworth’s donation center in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. The center is open 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
