Just a Generation Z girl here to chat about Disney Channel Original Movies. These opinions come from someone born in 2003, so take that into consideration. In that year, the movies “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Stitch! The Movie” and “Holes” were released, so I like to say that I was born to have an eye for the best films. As we get into fall and are feeling nostalgic, I cannot help but think about Disney Channel original movies. So, sit back and let’s take a blast into the past. Here are the top 10 Disney Channel Original movies, in my opinion.
10. “Den Brother”: A little girl’s older brother becomes her girl scout leader, her Den Mother is now her Den Brother! What was a tough, star hockey player gets taught lessons by joyous little girls.
9. “Let It Shine”: A boy who has a love for rapping, but doesn’t feel the support from his parents ends up in an extensive rap battle over a girl he likes. The theme of being yourself is shown through the pressure everyone is putting on him.
8. “The Thirteenth Year”: A 13th birthday celebration is altered when the birthday boy notices that he is growing scales. Cody Griffin is not going through the same puberty that everyone he knows has gone through.
7. “Teen Beach Movie”: Brady, a surfer who has a dreamer’s view of the world, and Mac, a surfer girl who takes life very seriously find themselves within the movie West Side Story. At first the theatrical life was enticing, until their presences changed the movie.
6. “Princess Protection Program”: Demi Lovato as a princess and Selena Gomez as the daughter of a secret agent find themselves living together. Carter Mason (Gomez) has to teach Rosalinda (Lovato) how to live like a normal teenager so the people invading her country do not find her.
5. “The Cheetah Girls”: Four teenage girls with very different cultures and backgrounds come together to form a singing group. The girls help each other through girlhood and life while belting in matching tracksuits.
4. “Camp Rock”: Demi Lovato as Mitchie Torres finds herself at the most famous rock camp in the nation. She balances a relationship with the star of a boy band and chasing her dreams of being a singer and songwriter.
3. “Halloweentown”: Grandma has a secret! Two kids follow their grandma to a place full of supernatural beings called “Halloweentown.””. They learn they are from a family of witches and now have to save the city from evil.
2. “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”: Following graduation, Lizzie McGuire’s class goes on a trip to Rome where she meets Paolo, a European pop star. He shows her around the city and makes her dreams of being a star come true.
1. “High School Musical”: New student, Gabriella Montez, finds herself singing with basketball star Troy Bolton on her first night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She thinks she’ll never see him again, but runs into him on her first day at her new school. Now Gabriella has to decide what is more important, her studies or the boy, and Troy has to decide what’s more important, his basketball career and reputation or the girl.
